Last week I reported on the return of our Family Night Promo, Saturday January 9th from 4-9pm. We love this promo – we are a community focused Mountain with a family oriented focus. So seeing families enjoy an affordable evening together brings smiles to our faces. Even better, introducing families to a new activity makes us giggle. For the first kick at the can this season, we’re happy to report we had 18 families join us for the first Family Night. If you missed it, we’re doing it again Saturday, January 30th from 4-9pm. For more details check poleymountain.com/promotions.
This week, being the week of January 11th, has brought some ups and some downs. And ladies and gentleman, that’s business. We closed Monday and Tuesday due to heavy amounts of rain coupled with high winds and seasonally warm temperatures. But as I remind you of our motto following last year’s devastating fire, “It’s Not Whether You Get Knocked Down… But Whether You Get Back Up!” Mother Nature lent a hand with 25+ centimetres of snow and we re-opened with a Storm Day Promo of 2 for 1 full day lift tickets, knowing our guests had missed both Monday and Tuesday when we typically offer ‘said’ promo.
Speaking of mottos, our new fundraiser shirts for the 2015/2016 season arrived today. Similar to last year’s, we will be selling navy blue men’s and women’s long sleeved shirts featuring our Poley Mountain logo on the front, with an outline design of the new lodge on the back with this year’s caption, “with every ending… brings a new beginning.” Shirts are available in limited quantities, so rush to the Mountain to get yours a-s-a-p. While I’m on the topic of the Retail Boutique, if you happen to be a fan of the Under Armour Storm series, we’re selling Bill’s new favourite hoody, Under Armour Storm Hoodies branded with our Poley Mountain logo.
Let’s now shed a little light on this week, the week of January 18th. Thursday (21st) night we have Rik Reese in the Slope Side Bar & Grill from 7:30-10:30pm and Juice plays Friday the 22nd from 7:30-11:30pm. And finally, the time has come for our Grand Opening Celebration. It should be a great day outside on the Mountain and inside the new lodge. Stephen LeBlanc will play in the Bar & Grill from 1-4pm, with a pork roast buffet dinner, some more entertainment, thank you’s and ribbon cutting. Around 7pm we’ll turn the mic over the Gary Morris and Crossroads to dance the night away. I urge you, if you plan to attend the pork roast buffet dinner, you must call 433-7668 to reserve tickets. Tickets are limited to our seating capacity and (we suspect) will sell out. If it is the dance you are interested in, there’s no charge to boogie-woogie-woogie and no need to reserve tickets for that portion of the evening. We should also make note our Bar & Grill will be closed during the hours of 5-7pm to accommodate the buffet and official ceremonies.
I’ve got one more thing I’d like to share and report back on next week. Sunday, the 17th of January, we are hosting a Teachers’ Appreciation Day at the Mountain. Here’s the catch – they get to join us at no charge! Not bad right? The complimentary day starts at 10am with a meet and greet, coffee and cookies, and some information on our School Programs. We will provide complimentary lessons from 11am-12pm, and the remainder of the day is theirs to ski or snowboard at their leisure. We have decided to run this event on the 17th and 24th of January; partly as a thank you to our teachers, and partly to raise awareness of the Economical programs we have available to our schools and the benefits of outdoor education.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to sharing a few minutes with you next week.
